Premiere of the first complete Polish edition of "Labirynt świata i raj serca” by Jan Amos Komeński
A special event dedicated to the first complete Polish edition of the book "Labirynt świata i raj serca”" by Jan Amos Komeński has just ended. The book's premiere took place on March 31st at the District Museum in Leszno and attracted a large group of participants interested in both literature and the history of the region.
After reading an excerpt from the book, the event took the form of an inspiring, free-form discussion. The event was attended by Dr. Kamila Szymańska, museum director and comeniologist; Wojciech Marzec, a Bohemian scholar from the Jagiellonian University and translator of the book; and Miroslav Huptych, an artist and creator of the unique collages illustrating the publication. The event was hosted by Jakub Piwoński.
Participants had the opportunity not only to better understand the context of the work's creation and its significance in the history of literature, but also to take a behind-the-scenes look at the translation process and the creation of the book's visual layer. There was also reflection on the relevance of Komeński's message and its connections with Leszno, which – as was emphasized – played an important role in the history of this outstanding artist.
It's worth recalling that "Labirynt świata i raj serca" is one of the most important works of early Czech literature – a text with a universal dimension, addressing the search for the meaning of life, harmony, and spiritual order. It was most likely in Leszno that its first edition was published in 1631.
We thank everyone for attending, sharing our conversations, and creating a unique atmosphere that evening. We are delighted that we were able to experience this gathering together – and we already invite you to future events organized by the museum.
