European Days of Archaeology 2026 at the District Museum in Leszno

The District Museum in Leszno is participating in the European Days of Archaeology once again, an international initiative promoting knowledge about the past and the work of archaeologists. To mark the occasion, we have prepared events for both young people and adults.

For youth
June 12, 2026 (Friday), 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
"A journey to the past. Secrets of earth and water"
museum lessons for primary and secondary schools

Land, water or the remains of old buildings hide countless traces of the life of people from centuries ago. It is archaeologists who discover them, study them and help reconstruct the history of ancient communities. During the classes, participants will see selected monuments found in the Leszno district and learn what life was like in the early Middle Ages. The exhibits include a 13th-century sword and aurochs horns.

For adults
14 June 2026 (Sunday), 4:00 p.m.
"Between the castle and the trail. People and things"
lecture

Did the inhabitants of early medieval Europe travel long distances? What objects did they bring with them and what can they tell us today about their old business contacts and everyday life? The lecture will feature selected archaeological artifacts from the collections of the District Museum in Leszno, including denary, umba, and ceramics. These inconspicuous testimonies of the past allow you to discover the stories of people, animals and objects from hundreds of years ago.

We cordially invite you to join us in celebrating the European Days of Archaeology and discovering fascinating traces of the past hidden in museum collections.
