Lecture: Stephen Werner and other bell founders in Leszno in the 18th century

In 2025, the Regional Museum in Leszno enriched its collections with a unique object of Leszno craftsmanship – a bell cast in 1730 in the foundry of master Stephan Werner (d. 1777). This is a unique example of a clock bell, without a heart – the sound was obtained by hitting the mechanical hammer of the clock on the outer part of the bowl. Traces of these impacts have survived to this day.

On this occasion, we invite you to a lecture:

Stephen Werner and other bell founders in Leszno in the 18th century

During the meeting, we will present the profile of Stephen Werner and the work of other bell founders associated with Leszno. We will also discuss the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of the bell for the museum collection and its significance for research into local crafts.

The lecture will be led by Małgorzata Gniazdowska, an art historian who supervised the process of acquiring the object for the Museum's collection.
