Together with the Western Institute in Poznań we published a book entitled: "Nazi – Architect – Photographer. Photographs from the Alfred Mensebach Collection". It is the nineteenth volume of Documenta Occupationis Teutonicae.

Alfred Mensebach is known primarily as the author of photographs documenting the destruction of Warsaw during the Warsaw Uprising – in the ranks of Technische Nothilfe he took part in the destruction of the Polish capital. However, he appeared in occupied Poland earlier, and from 1943 until the end of war he lived in Leszno at Bismarckstrasse (Leszczyńskich Street), where he ran his own architectural studio.

Together with the Western Institute in Poznań we invite you to the promotion of  book, which will take place on January 21, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., at the Museum's headquarters at 31 Gabriela Narutowicza Street. During the meeting it will be possible to purchase the newly published publication.

Information about the book

The authors of book are: Artur Michalak - District Museum in Leszno, and Dr Bogumił Rudawski - Western Institute in Poznań.

The publication consists of two parts: an introduction with a biographical outline of Alfred Mensebach, an overview of his achievements as an architect working in the Wartheland, as well as his participation in the destruction of Warsaw, and the fate of his photographic archive.

The second part consists of a presentation of his photographic archive (Project Soczewka, Wartheland through Mensebach's lens, Hitlerjugend training center in Mikstat, Demolition of Warsaw, Swearing of the Volssturm in Leszno).

The final part is an annex (Mensebach as the designer of Soczewka, the destruction of Warsaw, the Volkssturm in Leszno from a different perspective).
