Board exhibition: The builders of Leszno - Hermann Nerger

We are starting the presentation of a series of exhibitions showing the activities of builders operating in Leszno at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The second half of the 19th century was a time when the architectural landscape of Leszno gradually began to change. Thanks to the construction of a railway line from Poznań to Wrocław in 1856, the economic development of the city took place, and thus the construction movement also intensified: old tenement houses were rebuilt and new ones were erected. Baroque gable houses began to disappear in favor of higher tenement houses, covered with a mono-pitched roof. At the Market Square, as well as on the main streets of the city, plots of land were combined to erect spacious houses with multiaxial facades. This movement intensified after 1870. It was then that builders appeared in the city, who not only designed new tenement houses, villas, farm buildings, but also ran large construction companies.
One of them was Herrman Nerger and the first exhibition was devoted to him.
