Tales of Old Linen Chest

The temporary exhibition "Tales of Old Linen Chest" is our latest exhibition proposal. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the subject of the exhibition and visit the Museum from January 15 to May 25, 2025. The curator of the exhibition is Małgorzata Gniazdowska, an art historian.
Description and aim of the exhibition
A linen chest is a former wardrobe for storing underwear: personal, bedding, table. What messages can this piece of furniture convey to us? Certainly the forgotten ones.
The presented exhibition is a story about various types of underwear used in our homes a hundred years ago.It is not only a presentation of shirts or pillowcases decorated with lace inserts or marked with an embroidered monogram, but also a presentation of the process of making sure that underwear is clean and elegant. At the exhibition, you can see how and where underwear was washed, starched and ironed. It will also be an opportunity to get to know now forgotten and once popular items of clothing such as reforms, women's combination or men's nightgown.
The texts accompanying the exhibition were taken from Maria Ochorowicz-Monatowa's extensive guide "Women's Household in the City and in the Countryside" published in 1914.
