Selected works from the collection of our museum have become part of the exhibition "What do women do with the brush?! Polish Women Artists 1850–1950", which is presented at the Lublin Castle from 26 April to 5 October 2025.

The exhibition is an attempt to break the established canon of art history and shows the extraordinary role of women – painters, graphic artists, sculptors, as well as creators of design and architecture – in Polish art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Our museum is honored to contribute to this important event by presenting the works of female artists from its own collection.

From the museum collection of the District Museum in Leszno, the following works were presented at the exhibition:

  • Karolina  Bierkowska (? – 1918), Chłopak wiejski, ML 394
  • Wanda Chełmońska (1891 – 1971), Procesja, ML 487
  • Maria Podlewska (1862 – 1948), Wnętrze II, 1911 , ML 1079
  • Bronisława Rychter-Janowska (1868-1953), Widok Worochty, 1911 , ML 785
  • Zofia Stryjeńska (1894 – 1976), Posiłek w góralskiej zagrodzie, ML 1222
  • Jadwiga Tetmajer-Naimska (1891- 1975), Chaty, ML 396
  • Jadwiga Tetmajer-Naimska, Dworek, ML 529
  • Jadwiga Tetmajer-Naimska, Żniwa, 1932 r., ML 1054

We invite you to visit the Lublin Castle and learn about the forgotten stories of Polish female artists who, thanks to this exhibition, regain their rightful place in the history of culture.
