The legendary James Bond's gun goes to the Museum
Recently, a press conference was held at the Museum, during which a unique exhibit was ceremoniously handed over to our collection – a Walther PPK pistol, produced between 1940-1945, along with a leather holster.
Weapons of this type were created in Germany from 1930, and their production resumed after World War II. Due to its reliable design, the Walther PPK is still produced today. During the war, it was used, among others, by Luftwaffe pilots, police formations and paramilitary organizations. Our showpiece was found on January 17, 2023 in the attic of the Experimental Plant in Pawłowice near Leszno. The pistol has found its reflection in popular culture, including films about the adventures of James Bond.
This is a valuable addition to the Museum's military collection, which is regularly enriched with new objects. The meeting was attended by, among others, Dr. Kamila Szymańska – Director of the District Museum in Leszno and Junior Inspector Paweł Prałat – First Deputy Municipal Police Commander in Leszno. We would like to remind you that a few years ago, thanks to cooperation with the Police, the Mauser rifle was also added to our collection.Today's event is another example of how we work together to preserve historical memorabilia.
After the completion of the conservation work, the Walther PPK pistol will be presented at the permanent exhibition devoted to the history of Leszno. We will inform you about its availability to visitors soon.
