The opening of new exhibition is behind us
On January 14 the opening of exhibition "Tales of Old Linen Chest" took place. This is our latest exhibition proposal. It is part of a series of exhibitions on everyday life in Leszno. The author of exhibition is Małgorzata Gniazdowska, an art historian. The exhibition consists mainly of Museum's exhibits.
The Director of Museum, Dr Kamila Szymańska emphasized the importance of reminding people that in the past all products were intended for multiple use, which is in opposition to modern times, dominated by disposability. Through the story of old underwear, a story is created about the world we have lost.
In turn, the curator of the exhibition, Małgorzata Gniazdowska, describes the exhibition as follows:
The presented exhibition is a story about various types of underwear used in our homes a hundred years ago. It is not only a presentation of shirts or pillowcases decorated with lace inserts or marked with an embroidered monogram, but also a presentation of process of making sure that underwear is clean and elegant. At the exhibition you can see how and where underwear was washed, starched and ironed. It will also be an opportunity to get to know now forgotten and once popular items of clothing such as bloomers, women's combination or men's nightgown.
It is worth reminding that on January 19 at 4:00 p.m. there will be a curatorial tour, which will be led by Małgorzata Gniazdowska. This is another unique opportunity to learn more about the old ways of caring for cleanliness and elegance and get to know forgotten items of clothing such as bloomers or women's combinations.
